Riverbend's visitor center overlooks the scenic Potomac River and the furnished outdoor deck is an ideal place to rest or have a snack after a hike. The snack bar and gift shop at the visitor center offer drinks, ice cream, snacks and other refreshments. The gift shop has nature books, nature items, maps, fishing tackle and other souvenirs. An Information Desk, self-guided activities for children, live animal displays and natural and cultural exhibits are also at the center. Restrooms are located on the deck at the visitor center. January and February the Visitor Center is open 11am-4pm, weekdays and weekends, closed on Tuesdays. The visitor center is open 9am-5pm weekdays and weekends, closed on Tuesdays, March-December. Please call ahead for holiday hours. Natural Ways to Explore the Outdoors with Your Family Self-guided activities, available during Visitor Center hours. Duff and Stuff Trail Guide (Families), Riverbend Visitor Center, 703-759-9018. Pick up the Duff and Stuff bag and hike this 1/4-mile trail as you use the clues in the bag to investigate the forest habitat. This is especially suited to families with young children. Reservations suggested. Donations appreciated. Nature Escapes Riverbend Visitor Center, 703-759-9018. Take part in self-guided activities including crafts, exhibits and animal watching. Each month is a different theme. FREE Scavenger Hunt (All Ages), Riverbend Visitor Center, 703-759-9018. Check out the Scavenger Hunt packet, and follow the clues as they lead you through the park in search of cool nature facts. Choose from a short form that can be used in the picnic area and a longer form that will take you on a hike through the park (can be used by families and larger groups such as scouts).
