Scout Programs in the Parks

Scouts can complete some or all the requirements for badges at Fairfax County Park Authority nature centers, historic sites, working farm and RECenters.

Frying Pan Park

Badge programs for Brownies, Junior Girl Scouts, Bears, and Webelos. Call 703-437-9101 for details.

Colvin Run Mill Historic Site

Colvin Run Mill offers Brownie Try-It, Listening to the Past (meets 3 requirements). Junior Girl Scout programs of Folk Arts, Local Lore, Women's Stories and Food, Fibers and Farming, and Bear Scout badge, What Makes America Special? Call 703-759-2771 for information and reservations. All scout programs are $5 per scout, accompanying adults and other participating children.

Ellanor C. Lawrence Park

Ellanor C. Lawrence Park now offers self-guided Merit Badge Packs for Jr. Girl Scouts, Brownies and Webelos, complete with badge requirements, suggested hikes, activities and natural history information. Packs are available for a $12 rental fee and may be reserved in advance. Leaders are encouraged to check out a pack and help their scouts earn a badge. Green Spring Gardens Park

Call the Children's Program Coordinator at 703-642-5173 for information about the scout programs offered at this horticultural park and historic site.

Hidden Oaks Nature Center

Badge programs for Daisies and Tigers (general walks), Brownies (Watching Wildlife Try-It, Eco-Explorer and Animal Try-It), Junior Girl Scouts (Wildlife, Geology), Wolf (Bird Arrow Point Trail), Bears (Sharing your World with Wildlife, Water & Soil Conservation), and Webelos (Forester, Geologist, Naturalist). Call the park at 703-941-1065 for more information and reservations.

Riverbend Park

Badge programs for Daisies and Tigers (general walks), Brownies (Watching Wildlife, Eco-Explorer), Junior Girl Scouts (Earth Connections, Wildlife), Bears (Sharing Your World with Wildlife), Webelos (Naturalist, Forester), Wolf (Fishing). Basic Skywatching for Scouts is for scouts (8 yrs. and up). Call the park at 703-759-9018 for more information and reservations.

Sully Historic Site

Sully Historic Site offers a variety of badge programs for Boy and Girls Scouts of all ages and interests, including cooking in an open hearth kitchen and learning how to weave. For more information or to schedule your next scout program, call (703) 437-1794.
