Adopt-A-Field / Adopt-A-Park Program
The Adopt-A-Field program is a cooperative venture between the Fairfax County Park Authority and interested athletic organizations whereby these organizations assume the maintenance responsibility for designated athletic fields.
The Adopt-A-Park program is a cooperative venture between the Fairfax County Park Authority and interested community organizations and citizens. Groups or individuals assume the maintenance responsibility for designated park areas or facilities. Areas within parks may include flower beds, playgrounds, stream valleys, trees and other points of interest.
The Adopt-A-Park program fosters a sense of pride and ownership in park facilities in the county. In many cases, volunteers are without a place at home to pursue hobbies such as gardening. Often entire neighborhoods or communities enjoy lending a hand for maintenance of the playgrounds in their nearby parks, or the trails in a nearby stream valley park. This cooperative venture benefits all users of the park system and allows the Park Authority to leverage its resources throughout the system; expanding the recreational benefits enjoyed by the citizens of the county.
In the past, many groups have found that assuming these responsibilities fosters a sense of pride, not only in the park facilities, but also in their organization. A better understanding of athletic field care is gained and the involved groups raise their level of consciousness regarding field use and abuse. The proprietary sense that results benefits all park users and allows the Fairfax County Park Authority to direct its resources to other areas, so that even more of the community can benefit.
The Park Authority's highly experienced and professional staff is always available to provide information and technical expertise in all areas of maintenance for Adopt-A-Field/Adopt-A-Park participants. Remember, this is a cooperative venture. Assistance on maintenance requirements, setting up the program and proper maintenance methods can be provided before and after the adoption occurs.
