VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
John Hopkins
Oak Marr RECenter’s
2011 Outstanding Volunteer
of the Year
When retirement claimed John in July 2010, the Fairfax
County Park Authority was blessed with one of its most
dedicated volunteers. His list of accomplishments still
keeps him anchored at Nottoway Park with his work with
Friends of Nottoway and beating back the invasive plants
such as amber birch that keep creeping onto the ground.
John was drawn back to Frying Pan Park and functions as
a wagon driver and interpreter sharing all the minute
details about the farm and its environs.
Fortunately for Oak Marr, John has dedicated early
Wednesday mornings as Farmers' Market Volunteer. Every
vendor and market master has commented on his outstanding
efforts at setting up the whole place - placing signs and
tents, directing trucks and people and, most importantly,
providing a new and colorful balloon to announce the
market day as it waves on Jermantown Rd. Every single
person that has been involved with organizing the Oak
Marr Farmers' Market has commented on John's enormous
commitment and contribution. Everyone believes it can't
be done without him.
Congratulations on your continued dedication to the
FCPA. You transitioned from Employee to volunteer
seamlessly and the Parks are the BIG WINNER.
