Junior Park Naturalist

Goal: To provide high quality service to the public.

Duties:  Duties may include any or all of the following:

Qualifications:   Should have an interest in nature, history, animal care, and the stewardship of the county’s natural and cultural resources.  Comfortable working in a public setting where routine varies.  Ability to work and communicate well with others.

Training:   Volunteer must attend the division orientation and required site training.  Volunteer will be trained by a Park Naturalist and/or shadow other experienced Junior Park Naturalists for at least one month of service.  Following this training the volunteer will work together with other Junior Park Naturalists before working independently. 

Commitment:  A six month commitment is preferred.  Upon completion of required training, the volunteer will be asked to work one shift per week or every other week.  Typical shifts are 1-2 hours.  Some program assistance may require more time.

Minimum Age:                 Twelve or thirteen depending upon the park.
