Fairfax County Park Authority's eight recreation centers and six golf courses serve approximately 1,000,000 customers annually. Volunteers are an integral part of daily operations as they work over 16,000 hours per month helping FCPA staff to offer a wide range of services seven days a week. They help patrons sustain quality facilities and services as well as improve their physical and mental well-being.

Volunteer opportunities are available at many of our RECenters, Golf Courses and Lakefront/Community parks. Choose from the drop-down list below:

Volunteers:

  • Perform a variety of tasks according to their interests and skills. Opportunities are as diverse as pottery lab and dog obedience training assistants to front desk associate and newsletter editor.
  • Help maintain the economic viability of these facilities which operate without tax subsidies
  • Receive benefits based on their work location and number of hours worked.

Park Services Volunteers
and Staff Work Together to:

  • Greet and orient visitors and patrons
  • Beautify and maintain facilities and grounds
  • Ensure safety of golfers
  • Instruct classes or serve as instructor's aides
  • Register visitors for classes
  • Support summer camps and preschool groups
  • Provide administrative support
  • Edit volunteer newsletters
  • Sign for the hearing impaired
  • Assist individuals with disabilities
  • Help sponsor special events
  • Monitor the ice rink and rent skates
  • Lifeguard

Volunteers make a difference by:

  • Promoting fitness as a way of life
  • Committing to a specific schedule for a six-month period
  • Completing training to help perform their duties
  • Providing timely, professional customer service
  • Maintaining the golf courses
  • Maintaining the economic viability of the FCPA RECenters and golf facilities

Volunteers Receive the Benefit of:

  • Volunteers at Golf Courses are provided free use of the facility they volunteer at contingent on specific site imposed restrictions. A minimum of six (6) hours per week is required.
  • Volunteers at RECenters are provided Free RECenter Use if volunteers provide a minimum of four (4) hours service per week.
  • A Free Class for volunteers who provide a minimum of thirty-two (32) hours service and consistently work eight (8) hours per week.
  • Volunteers at RECenters are provided a RECenter Pass Discount on a twenty-five (25) visit pass at a special county employee rate.
  • Enhancing the quality of life for customers and themselves.
