VOLUNTEER AT CUB RUN RECenter

Our volunteers tell us that volunteering at Cub Run RECenter is a rewarding experience. Volunteers not only help our community but they also earn FREE membership at the RECenter where they volunteer. Volunteers can forge friendships and meet customers and co-workers who share their interests. They learn more about all the wonderful parks and facilities that Fairfax County has to offer. We hope you will decide to join us; we are looking forward to working with you.

Barbara Smiley

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Barbara Smiley
Cub Run RECenter’s
2014 Outstanding Volunteer
of the Year

Barbara Smiley has always exhibited a "can do" spirit, and is willing to roll up her sleeves and pitch in until the work is completed and the RECenter goal is achieved. Even when the work may be difficult, she does not say "no," but rather "let me see what I can do."

In late 2013, Barbara was working effectively with customers as a front desk volunteer. But when the Cub Run RECenter was left without a marketing/PR volunteer who could assist with soliciting donations, it was suggested to Barbara that help in this area was needed. She did not hesitate, and with very little guidance or direction, Barbara succeeded in obtaining donations from a number of groups (including Walmart, Giant Food, Chipotle, and others) for the 2013 Volunteer Christmas party.

For her ability to promote the RECenter and her continued excellent customer service, we are happy to name Barb Smiley Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for Cub Run RECenter.
