Other Major Parks: Frying Pan, Green Spring Gardens, Nottoway, Mason District, Turner Farm

ATTENTION!PLEASE NOTE: This is an update for Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

In weather-related emergencies, Park Authority programs, classes and events at park facilities and schools will be canceled based upon the closing decision of Fairfax County Public Schools.

Since Fairfax County Public Schools are opening two hours late (FCPS Condition 3):

  • FCPA events, scheduled classes and group fitness drop-in classes held at RECenters or other FCPA facilities beginning before 11 a.m. are canceled; those beginning at 11 a.m. or later will operate as scheduled.
  • FCPA winter camps/workshops held at RECenters or FCPA facilities will begin at 11 a.m.
  • FCPA classes held at school locations beginning at 11 a.m. or later will operate as scheduled.
  • Morning preschool programs at Lee District and Spring Hill start at 11 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.. Afternoon preschool will be from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

RECenters and other park facilities will maintain normal business hours.

Clemyjontri Park, A Park For All Children!CLEMYJONTRI PARK  is located at 6317 Georgetown Pike in McLean. The park features a playground designed to provide greater accessibility than a standard playground offers, a carousel and a picnic pavilion. The entrance road leads to an 81-space parking area and a drop-off zone for vehicles whose passengers need close access to the playground. Future development will include other amenities in the surrounding 10 acres of space.

Carousel Operation Schedule

Take Beltway Exit 44 (Georgetown Pike/Rt. 193) east toward Langley. Merge onto Georgetown Pike/VA 193. Travel approximately 2.2 miles to park entrance on the right.

Kidwell BarnFRYING PAN FARM PARK  is located at 2709 West Ox Road in Herndon. Frying Pan Park is home to Kidwell Farm, a working model farm typical of farms found in Fairfax County in the early 20th-century. Also at Frying Pan is an Visitor's Center, Indoor Arena and outdoor riding areas, and an equestrian trail. Although Frying Pan Park does not rent horses or provide lessons, the arenas are available for local equestrians and riding instructors to use.

Riding facilities are open Monday through Wednesday from 8am to 9pm and Thursday through Sunday from 8am to 4:30pm.

Directions: Frying Pan Park may reached by taking Beltway Exit 49 which is Route 66 west to the Route 50 west exit. Follow Route 50 west to a right on the Fairfax County Parkway until it meets West Ox Road. Turn left on West Ox Road and follow to the park entrance on the right.

GREAT FALLS GRANGE PARK is located at 9818 Georgetown Pike in Great Falls. The park, in the heart of Great Falls, has baseball/softball fields, a picnic area with pavilion, and a small tot lot. The Grange Hall and Schoolhouse are available to rent for weddings, parties, and meetings.

The Great Falls Grange Hall, built in 1929, served as a center for town assemblies, fund raisers, and carnivals. Available for meetings, weddings, receptions, art shows, theatrical productions, and other social events and corporate events, it is the Park Authority's largest rental facility with a capacity for 200. This two-story structure also has a stage and kitchen facilities.

Adjacent to the Grange Hall is the Old Schoolhouse. Built in the 1890's, the building has been a school, church, library, bank and private residence. It accommodates 49 people. Both the Grange and the Schoolhouse have central heat, but no air conditioning.

Directions: The Great Falls Grange and Old Schoolhouse can be reached by taking Beltway Exit 44, (Georgetown Pike/Route 193) west for 6.2 miles to the park entrance on the right.

Green Spring GreenhouseGREEN SPRING GARDENS is located at 4603 Green Spring Road in Alexandria. Through its gardens and educational programming, Green Spring advances the awareness and practice of gardening in Metropolitan Washington, DC. Visitors are invited to stroll through 5 acres of gardens, enjoy educational programs in our 18th century manor house, attend classes in the visitor center, or research gardening questions in our horticultural library.

Hiking trailNOTTOWAY PARK is located at 9537 Courthouse Road in Vienna. At Nottoway Park, you can play tennis, basketball or volleyball, garden, picnic, work out on the fitness trail, or enjoy the quiet solitude of our wooded nature path. The tennis courts may be reserved for a small fee, by calling 703-938-7532. A picnic shelter and picnic area may also be reserved. See the Picnic Area section of this website for details.

During the summer months, Nottoway Park hosts Nottoway Nights, a series of weekly, free public concerts featuring a variety of musical acts from across the United States and around the world.

Hunter House, a turn-of-the-century historic mansion located on park grounds, is available for private and corporate rental. It was the residence of immigrant John C. Hunter. From 1921 to 1940, the property was a winery, producing the wine "Virginia Maid."

Surrounded by 84 acres of parkland, the stately mansion can accommodate 75 indoors and 150 with rental of the formal lawn and a canopy. It is air conditioned and has central heat.

Directions: Nottoway Park and the Hunter House are located at 9537 Courthouse Road in Vienna. The park may be reached by taking Beltway Exit 49 (Route 66) west to exit at Route 243 or Nutley Street north. Turn left on Courthouse Road from Nutley Street and the park entrance will be on the left.

Arts in the Parks concertMASON DISTRICT PARK is located at 6621 Columbia Pike in Annandale. It has playing fields, a large natural area, a hiking trail, play ground and tot lot, tennis courts and a refreshment stand.

During the summer months, Mason District hosts Arts in the Parks, a free children's entertainment series held Saturday mornings, and the Spotlight by Starlight series.

Directions: Mason District Park may be reached by taking Beltway Exit 52B which is Route 236 east two miles to a left on John Marr Drive. Turn right on Columbia Pike to park entrance on the right just before Sleepy Hollow Road.

Turner FarmTHE TURNER FARM is located at the intersection of Georgetown Pike (Route 193) and Springvale Road (Route 674) in Great Falls, Virginia, within the Dranesville District. The park entrance is on Springvale Road.

This peaceful and serene 52-acre park is located on the site of a former dairy farm. Its rolling pastures and dairy barn complement the semi-rural community of Great Falls, Virginia. The land was saved from development by a public/private partnership started in 1994 to "Save-the-Farm." Private donations and volunteer efforts continue to supplement the Park Authority's limited budget for this facility.

Hours of Operation: The park is open dawn to dusk except for speciality, after-hours events hosted only on Friday nights by the Annalemma Society. Visit the Analemma Society website (www.analemma.org) for a schedule of astronomy events. There are no entrance fees and no onsite park staff.
