Scout Programs in the Parks
Scouts can complete some or all the requirements for badges at Fairfax County Park Authority nature centers, historic sites, working farm and RECenters.
Scouts are invited to sign up for our prescheduled programs listed in Parktakes Online. New program coding allows online search of scheduled programs, individual online registration, and group registration by phone (703-222-4664).

Hidden Oaks Nature Center
Located conveniently just inside the Beltway in Annandale, Hidden Oaks naturalists offer a wide variety of scouting program, project and activity options for all levels of girl and boy scouts. Register for a scheduled program or arrange a separate program for your group for 12 or more scouts. Girl scouts can "take a side trip" on their journeys with a science-themed program tailored to their troop's interests and needs. Hidden Oaks also offers many badge programs as well.
For Boy Scouts, naturalists offer a range of badge, achievement or trail elective programs that fulfill the requirements up through the WEBELOS rank. Boy Scout merit badges averaging 3-4 hours fulfill most of the requirements and certified merit badge counselors will work with your scout to fulfill the remainder of the badge activities.
Both boy and girl scouts are invited to have their group join public programs including campfires, Fearless Fest, Hidden Oaks Treasure Hunt and others ranging from tea parties to Venomous Snakes & Poisonous Plants. Hidden Oaks' classroom may be rented for troop or pack events with an option for a naturalist presentation. Contract for a naturalist to bring live animals or another program to your next meeting! Contact suzanne.holland@fairfaxcounty.gov or call 703-941-1065. Check Hidden Oaks scout menu for this quarter's offerings. Reservations and advanced payment for scouts and their siblings required.
