Office of Public Private Partnerships

The Fairfax County Office of Public Private Partnerships (OP3) creates and develops public-private partnerships to stimulate positive change in the community and encourage civic involvement and responsibility.

The OP3 brings together representatives and resources from public and private sectors to address community issues impacting the quality of life in Fairfax County. This pooling of resources has an effectiveness which surpasses government or private institutions acting alone.

WHAT'S NEW AT OP3

 - The Grants Research and Training Center (formerly the Nonprofit Grants & Funding Research Center) reopened on June 1, 2010 as a partnership between the Office of Public Private Partnerships and the Fairfax County Public Libraries.  The Center provides access to databases that help nonprofit grant seekers identify grant opportunities as well as workshops and resources on how to use Foundation Center tools and apply for grants. The Center will be offering a series of workshops that may interest both new and experienced users of the Foundation Center databases, Foundation Directory Online Professional and Grants to Individuals Online:

  • Orientation to the Foundation Center Databases & Resources Workshop. This one-hour informal workshop will provide an overview on how to use the databases to search for grants. It will also briefly review other Foundation Center resources that may assist with grant seeking and building nonprofit capacity. This session is targeted to new or beginning users or as a refresher for return users. You are welcome to bring your own lunch to the session. Attendance at the Orientation is first come, first-served. Space is limited
  • Best practices in using Foundation Directory Online to support Grant Seeking Workshop. This one-hour informal workshop will include a discussion of best practices in using Foundation Directory Online Professional to search for grantmakers. Come share your experiences as well as learn about new tools within the Grantseeking database to improve prospecting. This session is targeted to those who are familiar with Foundation Center databases. You are welcome to bring your own lunch to the session. Free. Registration Required. First come, first-served. - OP3 assisted in the 2010 Census efforts by connecting the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC) and Statevoices. On April 1st and 2nd, APALRC recruited volunteers to make phone calls to individual households in the "hard-to-count" populations (i.e. elderly, transient, limited English proficiency, tenants, low-income, non-citizens, etc.) reminding them to participate in the Census. Thirty-five volunteers, speaking a variety of languages including Chinese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Gujarati, Khmer, Korean, and Arabic, and ranging from high school students to college students participated. The project was made possible thanks to the help of Statevoices, who provided the phone-banking database system (Voter Activation Network) from which volunteers made phone calls.

-  As part of the official launch of the Fairfax County Restoration Project (FCRP), a ribbon cutting and check presentation was held at George Mason University on April 2, 2010. A check from the Transurban-Fluor Capital Beltway Project Community Grant Program for $5,000 was presented to GMU's Office of Sustainability to support the GMU Community Garden. GMU President, Alan Merken, Jennifer Aument, representing Transurban, and Amy Gould, chairperson of FCRP were in attendance.   (Photo)  (Press Release)
