ADOPT-A-FAMILY PARTNERSHIP

 

Each fall, as the holiday season approaches, underserved families in Fairfax County are in need of assistance. These "working poor" families earn salaries far below the amount that allows them the luxury of providing for special holidays. Families are referred by participating agencies, schools and faith communities. Adopt-A-Family was a partnership previously housed in the Office of Public Private Partnerships to address this issue. Today, the program is now integrated with Our Daily Bread (ODB) , a volunteer-based organization focused on easing the plight of low income residents in Fairfax County, Virginia. ODB will help provide these families with clothing, toys, gifts and many of the necessities of life that most of us take for granted. Sponsors, who include employees of area businesses and County agencies, members of civic organizations and faith communities, and private citizens are provided information on family members' needs and wishes. Sponsors can either purchase and wrap gifts themselves or donate monetary contributions for purchase of gifts.

 

How Can I Help?

1. Sponsor a family for the holidays. Our Daily Bread will match the donor with a family.

     Sponsors are responsible for:

• Coordinating donations from co-workers (group members)
• Shopping for gifts on wish list
• Wrapping Gifts
• Delivering gifts to the distribution site in Reston

2. Make a monetary contribution.

3. Volunteer to shop and wrap gifts.
