ADOPT-A-FAMILY
Each fall, as the holiday season approaches, underserved families in
Fairfax County are in need of assistance. These "working poor"
families earn salaries far below the amount that allows them the luxury
of providing for special holidays. Families are referred by participating
agencies, schools and faith communities. Adopt-A-Family was a partnership
previously housed in the Office of Public Private Partnerships to address
this issue. Today, the program is now integrated with Our Daily Bread (ODB), a volunteer-based
organization focused on easing the plight of low income residents in
Fairfax County, Virginia. ODB will help provide these
families with clothing, toys, gifts and many of the necessities of
life that most of us take for granted. Sponsors, who include employees of
area businesses and County agencies, members of civic organizations and
faith communities, and private citizens are provided information on
family members' needs and wishes. Sponsors can either purchase and wrap
gifts themselves or donate monetary contributions for purchase of
gifts.
Visit the Our Daily Bread (ODB) website for more information on how
to participate.

ADULT HEALTH AND DENTAL
PARTNERSHIP (AHDP)
The Adult Health and Dental Partnership provides medical and dental
services at a reduced fee for low-income adults who cannot afford or do
not have access to health insurance. They do not qualify for Medicaid or
Medicare and are within certain income guidelines. Clients can
participate in either of two ways:
- Through the Kaiser Permanente HMO "Bridge Program" which provides comprehensive health care benefits for a maximum period of 24 months.
- Through linkage with a private physician and/or dentist who will provide care for reduced fee.
Case managers from Northern Virginia Family Service provide the initial
linkage. Reach them at (703) 385-3267, TTY 711. Please call or
visit http://www.nvfs.org
for more information about the Adult Health and Dental Partnership.

CREATING ASSETS, SAVINGS, AND HOPE (CASH-VITA)
COMPUTER LEARNING CENTERS PARTNERSHIP
(CLCP)
The Computer Learning Centers Partnership (CLCP) is an award-winning after-school program that serves children living in low-income neighborhoods in Fairfax County. The CLCP is a public-private partnership between the Fairfax County government, the Fairfax County Public Schools, businesses, local colleges and universities, private citizens and housing entities that pool their resources to provide high-tech resources through state of the art computer centers in or near communities in which low-income children live. Established in 1995, the CLCP was initiated to bridge the digital divide for low-income children and increase their daily access to computer technology. The CLCP is currently managed by the Community Recreation Services (CRS). There are approximately 14 CLCP centers located in the county. They are open from and serve Fairfax County children. To contact the CLCP, call (703) 324-555 or visit the CLCP web page at CRS.
MEDICAL CARE FOR CHILDREN PARTNERSHIP (MCCP)
Established in 1986, the Medical Care for Children Partnership provides access to medical and dental care for eligible, uninsured children of working families living in Fairfax County. MCCP is a public-private partnership that pools the resources of the Fairfax County government and the medical, business and philanthropic communities to accomplish this task. MCCP targets children who do not qualify for Virginia’s FAMIS program or Medicaid, but whose families cannot afford nor have access to private insurance. Children from infancy to age 19 whose families earn 250% or less of the federal poverty guidelines and reside in Fairfax County are eligible to participate in MCCP. Since its inception, MCCP has linked over 75,000 children with a medical home. MCCP has been received numerous national awards for being at the forefront of providing access to health care.
In 2009, the Medical Care for Children Partnership established a Foundation dedicated to supporting the Partnership and its efforts to increase access to health care for Fairfax County children. Project Discovery was implemented
in Fairfax County in 1992 as a collaboration among the Fairfax
County Office of Partnerships, Fairfax County Public Schools, the
Virginia Department of Education, area colleges and universities,
businesses, parents and students. The program's goal is to encourage
students grades 9-12 to achieve educational excellence and pursue
college educations. These youth, from underserved families, are given
tools to excel in their studies and become well-rounded students who
are often the first in their families to attend college. The program
provides tutoring, life skills workshops, SAT preparation, college
visits, cultural enrichment and access to scholarships. Parents are
also included in workshops on higher education and other activities.
For the last five years, 100 percent of Project Discovery's graduating
seniors have enrolled in post-secondary schools. Project Discovery is a
partnership among the county, Fairfax County Public Schools, colleges
and universities, and area businesses and families. It is partially
funded by the Virginia Department of Education and has
traditionally provided some of the following services:
• College campus visits
• Cultural enrichment activities
• Access to tutorial services
• Case management
• Crisis intervention
• Family support
• Workshops on lifeskills, career choice and
college preparation
• SAT preparation
• Exposure to technology
• Seminars for parents/guardians
As a result, participants demonstrate the following
achievements:
• Are the first in their family to attend
college
• Participate in extracurricular
activities
• Achieve placement in Gifted and Talented,
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs
