(FAIRFAX, Va.) — The advisory council for the Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP), a public-private program managed by the Fairfax County Office of Partnerships, has won a Volunteer Fairfax Volunteer Service Award in the category of Organizations Working on Education/Advocacy/Health.

"This is such a great honor," said Office of Partnerships Executive Director Emily Bryant. "The MCCP Advisory Council carves hours out of their professional lives each week to ensure that Fairfax County children from low-income families have access to medical care. This is a selfless group who volunteers not to grandstand, but because of a caring attitude. I'm delighted whenever the advisory council is recognized for their efforts."

Volunteer Fairfax presented the award at its 15th Annual Volunteer Service Breakfast on April 24. Accepting on behalf of the MCCP Advisory Council were co-chairs Regis Arnone and Diane Naughton. This year, Volunteer Fairfax received approximately 150 nominations in 13 different categories that recognize the contributions of volunteers.

"We are thrilled to receive this recognition from Volunteer Fairfax, especially as it emphasizes the important work MCCP is doing in the community — providing children with preventive medical and dental care," Naughton said.

MCCP provides medical and dental care to uninsured children in Fairfax County who are not eligible for Medicaid or FAMIS. MCCP's ultimate goal is to ensure that uninsured children in Fairfax County have medical homes. To achieve its goals, MCCP and the Office of Partnerships develop unique partnerships between the government and businesses, foundations, healthcare providers, and ecumenical and community-based organizations.

The advisory council consists of a dedicated group of more than 120 members from a variety of public and private organizations.
