GMU students and members present their donated check to MCCP, which will provide healthcare to 20 children for a full year

Fairfax, Virginia, May 15, 2008 – Who knew so many people could benefit from a couple days of “roughing it”? Last weekend, George Mason University’s spring Greek Week included a "Shack-a-thon" fundraiser for which fraternities and sororities had three hours to build a shack that would be their residence for the duration of the weekend. The rainy weather only added to the challenge, creating a true test of the shacks’ construction quality and the students’ determination; but rewarding their efforts were all the compassionate passersby who gave them a remarkable total of $12,000. The students donated half of the proceeds to Fairfax County’s Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP), enough to provide medical care to 20 children for a full year. The other half of the raised funds was donated to Habitat for Humanity.
