| Project Discovery Banquet |
Project Discovery will proudly celebrate the graduation of college-bound students by holding its fifteenth Annual Student Recognition Banquet on Friday, May 2nd.
The student-run banquet will be held on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport, who has co-sponsored the event. Returning alumni will be presenting keynote speeches. Scholarships, provided by the Dominion Guild and The Greater Washington Foundation of Insurance & Financial Advisors, will be also presented during the ceremony to the many deserving graduates.
Project Discovery encourages students to achieve educational excellence and pursue college educations. These youth, from underserved families, are given tools to excel in their studies and become well-rounded students who are often the first in their families to attend college. The program provides tutoring, life skills workshops, SAT preparation, college visits, cultural enrichment and access to scholarships. Parents are also included in workshops on higher education and other activities. For the last five years, 100 percent of Project Discovery's graduating seniors have enrolled in post-secondary schools. Project Discovery is a partnership among the county, Fairfax County Public Schools, colleges and universities, and area businesses and families. It is partially funded by the Virginia Department of Education.
