  • The Board made the following presentations:

    • Oakton High School Best Buddies Club
      The Board recognized the Best Buddies Club of Oakton High School for being selected to receive the 2009-2010 Outstanding Chapter Award from Best Buddies International.

    • Fairfax High School 75th Anniversary
      The Board recognized Fairfax High School for its 75th anniversary.

    • Nicole Ferraro
      The Board recognized Nicole Ferraro for establishing the Bite Me Cancer Foundation to raise funds for cancer research and to help children and teens with cancer.

    • Morteza Salehi
      The Board recognized Morteza Salehi for his years service to Fairfax County as the Virginia Department of Transportation Northern Virginia district administrator.

    • Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling
      The Board recognized the members of Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling for preparing the Guide for Reviewing Public Road Design and Bicycling Accommodations for Virginia Bicycling Advocates

    • Larry Ichter
      The Board recognized Larry Ichter for his years of service to Fairfax County.

    • 2010 National Gold Medal Award
      The Fairfax County Park Authority presented the 2010 National Gold Medal Award for excellence in park and recreation administration to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Park Authority received the parks and recreation industry’s highest honor from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration in partnership with National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA).

  • The Board presented the Lawrence V. Fowler Award to Harold L. Strickland. The award recognizes the distinguished service of a longstanding member of a Fairfax County board, authority, commission or committee (BAC) whose exceptional service contributed to the overall quality of life in the community.  Strickland has been the Sully District representative on the Fairfax County Park Authority Board since 1992. 

  • The Board adopted the 2011 legislative program for the Virginia General Assembly.   The Legislative Program and Human Services Issue Paper are available online. 

  • The Board adopted the Pohick Creek Watershed and Sugarland Run/Horsepen Creek Watershed management plans.

  • The Board authorized the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority to issue revenue bonds up to $30,000,000 to refinance capital improvements to existing facilities and a new parking garage at Arleigh Burke Pavilion for the benefit of Vinson Hall Corporation (VHC).

  • The Board endorsed the Chief Administrative Officers (CAO) Task Force’s primary recommendation regarding the proposed FY 2012 Virginia Railway Express (VRE) budget.  The recommendation is that VRE should balance the FY 2012 budget without a jurisdictional subsidy increase.

  • The Board approved a lease agreement between Vamoose Bus and Fairfax County to permit Vamoose buses to utilize Fairfax Connector bus bays at the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Lorton Station to provide express bus service to and from New York City.
