The Board approved a contract award for renovation and expansion of the
West Ox Animal Shelter.

A project agreement between NRCS and NVSWCD was approved for
rehabilitation of Lake Barton.

The Board designated Virginia Dept. of Transportation FY 2011 Revenue
Sharing Program funds to partially fund the widening of Stringfellow
Rd.

The Board authorized the Dept. of Family Services to apply for and
accept grant funding for Early Head Start Expansion.

The Board appointed Christopher A. Leonard as the director of the newly
created Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) today.
The department consolidates the Department of Community and Recreation
Services and the Department of Systems Management for Human
Services.

The Board approved comprehensive plan amendments for the community
business centers in Annandale and Baileys Crossroads.

The Board recognized the Thomas Jefferson High School U.S. Olympiad
finalists for their academic achievements in computer, chemistry,
mathematics, computational linguistics, physics and biology.

The Board designated September 2010 as Direct Support Professionals
Appreciation Month in Fairfax County. Direct support professionals
provide care for individuals in the community who have age-related or
other disabilities and need long-term services to live as independently
as possible.

The National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America was
recognized for its work with youth and its contributions toward
building a conscientious, responsible and productive society. The Boys
Scouts of America was established 100 years ago.

The Board recognized the McLean High School Girls Softball Team for
winning the Virginia State AAA Championship.

Ben Peck of Herndon, a lifelong resident of Fairfax County, was
recognized for more than 50 years of community service. His efforts
contributed to the preservation of the land that became Frying Pan Farm Park.
- The Board recognized Howard Guba for his years of service with the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services. During his tenure, Guba has been involved in the Capital Improvement Program and made lasting contributions to the quality of capital construction in Fairfax County.
