The Board made
the following presentations:

The Board recognized Edward DeSantis for his years of service on
the Fairfax County
Geotechnical Review Board, Winifred Shapiro for her years of
service on the board of the Fairfax County
Park Authority, Tracey Ryan for her dedicated service as the
volunteer director of the Fairfax County
Citizens’ Police Academy, Michael McMahon for his years of
service as the Braddock District commissioner on the Fairfax County Tree
Commission and the Board thanked the Department of Planning and
Zoning, Planning Division for its dedication and professionalism in
working with the Mount Vernon District Area
Plans Review Task Force.

This was the Board’s
organizational meeting for the new year; Sup. Penny Gross was
reelected Vice Chairman of the Board for 2011 and Board members were
appointed to interjurisdictional committees, boards and committees for
the calendar year.

The Honorable Kate Hanley was appointed chairman of the 2011 Citizen
Reapportionment Committee. A few appointments were made to
the committee and the first committee meeting will be held on Jan. 18,
2011.

The Board approved traffic calming measures for Ox Hill Road and
Charles Stewart Drive and the installation of “$200 Additional Fine for
Speeding” signs at various locations throughout the county as part of
the residential traffic administration program.

The Board authorized the Health Department to accept a Department of
Health and Human Services subgrant award through the Virginia
Department of Health for public health emergency response.

The Board authorized the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department to
apply for and accept funding from the 2010 State Homeland Security
Program Grant from the National Preparedness Directorate.

The Board gave authorization to advertise a public hearing to consider
adoption of an ordinance that provides for a special assessment to be
levied on the properties within the Mosaic District Community
Development Authority.

The Board approved their meeting
schedule for Calendar Year 2011.

The Board approved the sale of General Obligation Public Improvement
Bonds that will generate $182.3 million to fund construction of capital
facilities and infrastructure as previously approved by the
Board.

The Board adopted the Belle Haven/Dogue Creek/Four Mile Run Watershed
Management
Plan.

The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding Between the Fairfax
County Police Department and the Fairfax City Police Department and
they renewed a Memorandum of Understanding Between the Fairfax County
Police Department and the United States Marshals Service.
- It was announced that Fairfax County will receive The Daniel Burnham Award from the American Planning Associationfor its blueprint to transform Tysons Corner.
