The Board recognized:
- the Oakton High School Girls Swim and Dive Team for winning the state championship
- the Centreville High School Football Team for advancing to the Virginia State finals in the Division VI category
- the Vienna Little League for its 60th anniversary
- the Police Department, Fire and Rescue Department and the Sheriff’s Office for participating in the 2011 World Police and Fire Games
- Robert Lederer for his years of service and partnership with Fairfax County

The Board approved the recommended
names for the eight Silver Line Metrorail stations in the county.
These names will be sent to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit
Authority’s board for final approval and adoption. The approved names
are:
McLean
Tysons Corner
Greensboro
Spring Hill
Wiehle-Reston East
Reston Town Center
Herndon
Innovation Center

The
Board confirmed the county’s participation in Phase 2 of the Dulles
Corridor Metrorail Project. Prior to today’s board action, the county
sought public input on the cost and financing for the project’s second
phase. County officials conducted four public meetings and an online
chat, and the Board held a public hearing on March 20. The estimated
cost for building the second phase of Dulles Rail is $2.7 billion—$1
billion less than earlier estimates, and 80 percent of the county's
total cost for the project will be paid for through voluntary, special
tax districts.

The Board approved Fairfax County's 2012 Disease Carrying Insects
Program to continue mosquito suppression strategies (i.e.,
surveillance, larviciding mosquito breeding areas, and public outreach)
and tick surveillance program and public outreach through June 30,
2013.

The Board
appointed Edward L. Long Jr. as county executive, effective April
25. Long has more than 34 years of experience with the county, and
retired as deputy county executive and chief financial officer in May
2011. Long replaces Anthony H. Griffin, who
retires this month.

The Board is holding public hearings on the FY 2013
fiscal plan this week. There was a public hearing tonight on the
County Executive’s Proposed FY 2013 Advertised Budget Plan, the Advertised Capital Improvement
Program for Fiscal Years 2013-2017and the Current Appropriation in the
FY 2012 Revised Budget Plan and the public hearings will continue on
Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12. The board’s budget pre-markup
session is scheduled for Friday, April 20, at 1 p.m. and the markup
session will be on Tuesday, April 24, at 10 a.m. The formal adoption of
the budget is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m.
during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of
Supervisors.
