The Board made presentations to community groups and individuals.
The Board recognized:
The Madison High School Boys Swim and Dive Team for winning the
Northern Regional swimming and diving championship.
The Oakton High School Girls Swim and Dive Team for winning the
Virginia AAA Championship.
Caroline McCleary of McLean High School for winning the one-meter
diving event at the Virginia AAA Swim and Dive Championship.
Beau Donahue of Westfields High School for winning his third Virginia
Marcella Fulmore of Lee High School for being named the 2012
Outstanding Mentor by Virginia Mentoring Partnership.
The Board designated:
April as Sexual Assault Awareness
Month in Fairfax County.
The week of April 14-20 as Public Safety Telecommunications Week in
The Board authorized the Fairfax County Police Department to apply for
and accept grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of
Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance and Office of Victims of
Crime for Human Trafficking Task Force.
The Board authorized the Fire and Rescue Department to apply for
funding from the Department of Homeland Security for a Staffing for
Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant.
The Board reallocated
more than $8.1 million in existing funds to complete more than 12
planned pedestrian and road improvement projects. The board was able to
shift money to these new or ongoing projects because the county
finished two other major transportation projects under budget.
The Board approved one of the largest Tysons redevelopment plans to
date. This is the third major plan the board has signed off on. Almost
two-times the size of its other development in Tysons—
Arbor Row—CityLine Partners’ Scotts Run
South project will add more than 6.6 million square feet of mixed
use development near the future McLean Metro station. This project will
erect 17 new buildings, including office, residential, retail and a
hotel. Scotts Run South will replace much of the existing West*Gate
office park. The majority of Scotts Run will be within a quarter mile
from the McLean station, the easternmost rail stop in Tysons.
- The Board is holding public hearings on the FY 2014 fiscal plan this week. Public hearings were held on zoning application fees, sewer service charges, commercial and industrial properties transportation taxes and the effective tax rate. Later in the evening, the public hearing focused on the County Executive’s proposed FY 2014 Advertised Budget Plan, the advertised Capital Improvement Program for Fiscal Years 2014-2018 (with future fiscal years to 2023) and the current appropriation in the FY 2013 revised budget plan. The public hearings will continue on Wednesday and Thursday, April 10-11, 2013. The Board’s budget pre-markup session is scheduled for Friday, April 19, and the Board’s budget markup and approval of FY 2013 third quarter is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23. The formal adoption of the budget is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
