The Board made presentations to community groups and individuals.
The Board recognized:

Harold Pyon for his years of service to Virginia, Fairfax County and
the Springfield District.

Rick Taube for his years of service to Fairfax County and the
region.
-
Roy Lounsbury for his years of service on the Mason District Land Use
Committee.
-
David Curtin for his accomplishment at the Special Olympics.
-
the Department of Public Works and Environmental
Services, the Department of Code Compliance,
the Police Department, the Office of the Sheriff and the Office of the Count
Attorney for their combined effort to clear a property of excessive
junk and vehicles in disrepair.
The Board designated:

March as
Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Inclusion Month in
Fairfax County.

March as Tuberculosis Awareness Month
in Fairfax County.

The Board heard a report on General Assembly activities.

Fairfax County Executive Edward L. Long Jr. presented his proposed
budget for FY 2014 to the Board. The presentation is
available as video-on-demand and will air again on Fairfax County
Government Channel 16 on Sunday, March 3, at 9 p.m. and Saturday, March
9, at 9 p.m. It also will air as part of the Board of Supervisors
meeting replays on Friday, March 1, beginning at 8 p.m., and Saturday,
March 2, at 10 a.m. Budget public hearings will be held in April.
Those wishing to speak at a public hearing can sign up online to place their name
on the speakers list, or contact the Office of the Clerk to the Board
at 703-324-3151, TTY 703-324-3903. The public hearings will be held in
the Board Auditorium, Fairfax County Government Center and will be
televised live on Fairfax County Government Channel 16. The county
executive will take online questions about his proposed budget during
an Ask Fairfax online chat scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28, 9:30 to
10:30 a.m. The Board will markup the FY 2014 budget and approve
FY 2013 third quarter on April 23 and formal adoption of the FY 2014
Budget will take place on April 30.

The Board approved a Management Agreement Contract (MAC) with the
Volunteer Fire Departments.

The Board endorsed applications for safe routes to school grant in the
Hunter Mill and Providence Districts.
- After holding a public hearing on the issue, the Board approved a proposed agreement with the Commissioner of Highways of the Commonwealth of Virginia that will allow Fairfax County to remove signs in the public right-of-way.
