August as Immunization
Awareness Month in Fairfax County.
Tuesday, July 30, as Campaign for 1,000 Day in Fairfax
The Board recognized:
the 60th anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement.
the Herndon High School Step Team for winning the 2013 Youth Step USA
Mark Meana for his years of service to the Fairfax County Youth
Shannon Steene for his years of service with Good Shepherd Housing and
the 4-H Fair and Carnival for its 65th anniversary.

Library for its 55th anniversary.
The Board authorized advertisement of a public hearing on September 10,
2013, to amend the current appropriation level in the FY 2014 revised
The Board authorized advertisement of a public hearing on a proposed
zoning ordinance amendment concerning residential studios. The
amendment will establish a new use of residential studios and will
permit such use in various residential, commercial, and industrial
districts by special exception or in all planned development
districts. The Board also recommended that the Planning
Commission conduct additional outreach in the form of work sessions or
other public engagement opportunities.
The Board approved a memorandum of agreement with the Sheriff
concerning personnel administration and grievance procedures.
The Board approved the Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council
Bylaws and Self-Assessment Report.
The Board approved an agreement with Arlington County to take the next
step to plan and design the
Columbia Pike Streetcar. The agreement allows the project to
move forward with additional environmental planning and conceptual
design. This work is needed before the proposed transit project can
move on to engineering and construction.
The Board approved an agreement with developer CityLine to provide
an interim, commuter
parking lot next to the McLean Metro Station. This surface, pay lot
will offer about 711 spaces and it comes at no cost to the county
because the developer will build, own, run and maintain the lot.
The Board set the fare for the three new, circulating bus routes in
Tysons and fees for the public parking garage at the Wiehle-Reston
East Metro Station. In a related action, the board also approved
the route for Connector Route 432. These transportation services and
facilities will help commuters get to and from the Silver Line, and
they will be available when the new rail line starts running.
held a public hearing on an interim development agreement with Lake
Anne Development Partners, LLC for the
redevelopment of the Crescent property in Reston as part of the
revitalization of Lake Anne. The Crescent, which features 181
garden style multi-family affordable units on 16.5 acres, is owned by
the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and managed by the Fairfax
County Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The final decision to
move forward with the interim development agreement will be made by the
Board of Supervisors at the meeting on September 10, 2013.
