presented the Sheriff’s Office re-accreditation
to the Board.

Harlan Eugene Cross Jr. presented his book, “Letters Home: Three Years
Under General Lee in the 6th Alabama,” to the Board.
The Board made presentations to community groups and individuals.
The Board recognized:

The Sheriff’s Office
Teen Awareness Program.

Ed Wenzel for the map he created showing Fairfax County in relation to
the activity that occurred throughout the Civil War.

The participants in the Fairfax County Civil War
Sesquicentennial event.
- Joe Nilson for his years of service to Fairfax County.
The Board designated:

April 7 as Holocaust Remembrance Day in Fairfax County.

March as Donate Life Month in Fairfax
County.

April as Fair Housing Month in Fairfax County.

April 1-7 as Public Health Week in
Fairfax County.

Gerald L. Gordon, President and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic
Development Authority gave a presentation of issues for Fairfax
County’s economic future.

Katherine K. Hanley and Stuart Mendelsohn, co-chairs of the Bi-Partisan Election Process Improvement
Commission, presented the commission’s
report. The 50 recommendations address equipment and
technology, resource allocation, absentee voting, election officers,
precinct locations and requirements, among other issues. The
commission was created by the Board of Supervisors in November 2012, in
response to voter complaints about long lines and other concerns during
the November 2012 Election.

The Board authorized a joint public hearing for the Virginia Department
of Transportation’s secondary six-year program for fiscal years 2014
through 2019, and the fiscal year 2014 budget.

The Board authorized advertisement of a public hearing to consider the
adoption of an ordinance that amends Appendix H of the Fairfax County
Code to grant a non-exclusive cable television franchise to CoxCom,
LLC.

The Board voted to renew a memorandum of agreement between the Fairfax
County Police Department and the United States Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The Board approved comments on the I-66 Tier 1 Draft Environmental
Impact Statement.

The Board authorized the submission of comments on the draft Virginia
Stormwater Management Program individual permit for stormwater
discharges from the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) owned
and operated by Arlington County.
- The Board deferred a decision to change the polling place for the University precinct from University Hall to Mason Hall, which had been requested by George Mason University
