The Board designated:

  • Sept. 15-Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Fairfax County.

  • Sept. 8-14 as Suicide Prevention Week in Fairfax County.

 

The Board recognized:

  • Those who have made properties available for training to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and the Police Department.

  • The Fairfax Police Youth Club Women's High School Rugby Team and the Men's Northern Virginia High School Rugby Football Club for winning the Rugby Virginia High School Division I state championships.

  • Kenneth Disselkoen for his years of service to Fairfax County.

  • Robert Mears for his years of service to Fairfax County and Laurnz Swartz and Ryand Randall for their accomplishments.

  • Kevin Fay for his years of service to Fairfax County.

  • Barbara Doyle of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital for her accomplishments.

  • The  Board  held a public hearing to amend the appropriation level in the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 Budget and approved the FY 2013 Budget Carryover package. The Board approved as part of the Carryover package an $850 non-recurring compensation adjustment for all merit employees.

  • The Board approved distribution of a plain English explanation for the 2013 School Bond Referendum.

  • The Board approved a street name change from Cane Hill Way to Caleb Court.

  • The Board approved an update to the contractual agreement for the Northern Virginia Regional Identification System (NOVARIS).

  • The Board revised the membership for the Mosaic District Community Development Authority Board.

  • The Board of Supervisors' Meeting Schedule was approved for Calendar Year 2014.

  • The Board  approved a license agreement between Fairfax County and George Mason University related to the operation of bus service at the Burke Centre Virginia Railway Express Station.

  • The Board endorsed the I-66 Vienna Metrorail Accessibility and Capacity Improvements.

  • The Board appointed Jeffrey K. Weiler as the executive director to the Fairfax County Retirement Boards, effective Monday, Sept. 16.

  • The Board approved an interim agreement with Lake Anne Development Partners LLC. This contract moves forward plans to revitalize the aging village center. The agreement focuses on transforming the county-owned 16.5 acre Crescent Apartments property, as well as the adjacent gas station. The redevelopment agreement also includes the potential to incorporate additional, adjacent sites and further partnerships. Under the contract, the developer will create a development plan and obtain zoning and land use approvals. Because more housing is a key to renewing the village center, the project could include up to 1,195 housing units and 117,000 square feet of retail space.

  • The Board deferred the decision on installation of a Parklawn Recreation Association telecommunication facility which includes a monopole until the board meeting on Sept. 24, 2013 at 3:30 p.m.
