Fairfax County Podcasts

Welcome to the podcast of meeting highlights for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting on July 9, 2007.

There was a presentation by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to the Fairafax County Wastewater Management Program of the designation of Exemplary Environmental Enterprise, or E3. Less than one-fifth of the several hundred facilities involved in the program have reached the E3 level. This designation recognizes facilities that have fully implemented Environmental Management System (EMS) emphasizing pollution prevention. It encourages facilities to exceed compliance with federal and local regulations and engage in environmental stewardship and sustainability practices.

The Board received a staff presentation on the status of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority implementation of HB 3202 (transportation funding bill). Chairman Connolly represents the Board on the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. There will be an NVTA public hearing and meeting on July 12, 2007, the meeting details are online at www.TheNoVaAuthority.org.

The Board approved the funding priorities as recommended by the Consolidated Community Funding Advisory Committee for the FY 2009/2010 consolidated community funding pool. It was noted that this public investment of funding is yielding results and making possible outcomes that have improved lives and strengthened the community.

The Board received a quarterly status report on the Board's four-year transportation program and other selected projects.

The Board passed a motion to take the "Cool Counties" challenge and authorize the chairman to sign the U.S. Cool Counties Climate Stabilization Declaration on behalf of Fairfax County next week at the National Association of Counties meeting. This program is designed to provide counties guidance on developing greenhouse gas emissions reduction plans.
