Welcome to the podcast of meeting highlights for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting on November 19, 2007. 

 

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors presented the Lawrence V. Fowler Award to Peter F. Murphy Jr. at its meeting. The award recognizes distinguished service of a longstanding member of a Fairfax County Board, Authority, Commission or Committee (BAC) whose exceptional service contributed to the overall quality of life in the community.

 

The design jury for the 23rd annual Fairfax County Exceptional Design Awards selected five winners of exceptional architectural or site design achievement in the county. The awards were presented at the meeting. This year’s award recipients are:

  • Honor Award
    Vienna Presbyterian Church Phase II Ministry Center and Balcony Additions
  • Merit Award
    Virginia Office of DBI Architects, Inc.
  • Merit Award
    Renovation and Addition of Clifton Presbyterian Church
  • Honorable Mention Award
    Fort Belvoir Family Communities
  • Honorable Mention Award
    Frederick P. Griffith Water Treatment Plant

 

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors presented its 2007 Environmental Excellence Awards. Awards were presented to Scott Birdwell, Eleanor Quigley and Penelope Firth; the Great Falls Citizens Association and the Invasive Management Area Volunteers; and Judy Fincham.

 

The Environmental Quality Advisory Council presented its 2007 annual report to the Board.

 

The Board noted that Fairfax County Government’s Channel 16 was recently honored by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) with its Government Programming Award. Channel 16 placed second for Excellence in Government Programming.

 

The Board held a public hearing on the proposed legislative program that will be presented to the Virginia General Assembly. The record will remain open for comments, and the Board will adopt the program at their next meeting on December 3, 2007.
