The Fairfax County Public Library has Harry Potter fever. On Friday, Aug. 3rd, the library will ask children ages 12 to 18 to discuss what Harry Potter means to them. The session will be held at 2 p.m. at the Centreville Regional Library, 14200 Saint Germain Drive in Centreville. Then, on Saturday, Aug. 11th, the Vienna branch of the library will host “Wizard Rock,” where children ages 8 and older can enjoy live music from the Harry Potter-inspired Whomping Willows and the Remus Lupins. This event will begin at 2 p.m. at the Patrick Henry Library, 101 Maple Avenue East in Vienna.

The Fairfax County Park Authority is reviving the fun of drive-in movies for a new generation. Come to Starlight Cinema and relive the old-fashioned enjoyment of the drive-in theater during the entire month of August. Starlight Cinema presents a movie every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Your evening will begin with an outdoor pre-movie program with music, food and children’s activities. Then, at dark, the movie will start. Admission is free and the event is appropriate for the entire family. This year’s schedule features “Superman Returns” on Aug. 4th; “Happy Feet” on Aug. 11th; “Night at the Museum” on Aug. 18th; and “Over the Hedge” on Aug. 25th. Starlight Cinema is located at 5875 Trinity Parkway in Centreville.

The next available "Starting a Business in Fairfax County" workshop is set for Tuesday, October 2nd. These free workshops run from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority headquarters, 8300 Boone Boulevard in Vienna. The session will cover local, state and federal resources for entrepreneurs and businesses.

And finally, fight the bite! Avoiding mosquito bites is the best way to avoid infection, which could include West Nile Virus. The best way to avoid mosquito bites is to reduce the mosquito population around your home and neighborhood by eliminating the standing water. You can do this by:

  • Cleaning your gutters.
  • Disposing of or recycling old tires.
  • Keeping water from puddling.
  • Fixing oudoor leaking faucets.
  • Cleaning bird baths weekly.
  • Adding fish or a recirculation pump to ponds.
    and
  • Storing or disposing of buckets, watering cans, or other containers.
