Attention history buffs. The Sully Historic Site will host its annual Civil War Weekend Encampment on Saturday, August 18th, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and on Sunday, August 19th, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Skirmishes both days will include cavalry and artillery. Visit the surgeon’s tent and learn about medical practices of the time period. Costumed interpreters will demonstrate the work of the army, including drill practice and rifle firing. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and children. Sully Historic Site is located at 3601 Sully Road in Chantilly.
The Sheriff’s Office will hold free child identification and fingerprinting sessions in August and September. Identification cards with fingerprints give authorities vital information to help them locate a missing child. The first session is scheduled for Saturday, August 18th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at PNC Bank, 9651 Lee Highway in Fairfax. The second session will be held on Saturday, September 22nd, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2960 Chain Bridge Road in Oakton.
