Fairfax County Podcasts

Good day, I’m Terry Rounds, and welcome to the Fairfax County News to Use podcast of September 11th, 2007. Coming up, learn about a demonstration of Napoleon’s cavalry, free child safety seat inspections, and a used book sale. Links to topics mentioned in this podcast can be found online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 15th and 16th, visitors to the Sully Historic Site will hear the grunts of men, the snorts of horses and the clang of drawn swords when the Brigade Napoleon sets up camp. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the costumed re-enactors, and their steeds, will be demonstrating the cavalry techniques used by Napoleon’s army. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children, and includes a tour of the 1794 home of Richard Bland Lee.  Sully historic site is located at 3601 Sully Road in Chantilly.

Effective July 1st, 2007, Virginia law requires all children up to age 8 must be in a child restraint device while riding in a motor vehicle.  And many experts say that 80 to 90 percent of child safety seats are installed or used incorrectly.  On Friday, September 21st, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting free safety seat inspections at the Babies R Us store located at 13954 Metrotech Drive in Chantilly.  The inspections are open to all county and city residents and will be conducted from 12:30 to 3:30.

And finally, book lovers can stock up at the Reston Regional Library Semi-Annual Used Book Sale, September 28th through the 30th.  The sale will be held on Friday from 10 to 5, Saturday from 10 to 4 and Sunday from 12 to 3:30.  It is open to all ages and no registration is required.  The Reston Regional Library is located at 11925 Bowman Towne Drive in Reston.
