Cats and Kittens
Kitten season—it’s the time of the year when cats and kittens rapidly fill shelters across the nation.
To respond to this influx of felines, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter will be launching its cat and kitten
foster care program.
The program will focus on providing in-home, individualized care for nursing feline mothers and their babies,
young kittens who need to be bottle fed or weaned kittens less than 8 weeks old that are not yet old enough
for adoption. The program will also serve cats and kittens that need to go into foster homes for medical
rehabilitation.
Small Mammals
In addition to cats, the shelter is seeking foster care providers for small mammals, such a rabbits and
guinea pigs. Volunteers are needed to provide care and socialization for these adorable critters to ready
them for adoption.
Special Needs Dogs
From time-to-time, the shelter may receive a dog who may need to spend some time in foster care to prepare it for adoption.
These dogs may benefit from special training or socialization to help them find their forever home. If you
can help a dog who needs a little extra TLC, become a foster care provider for the Fairfax County Animal
Shelter today.
Training and support will be provided for all foster care providers.
If you are interested in providing a temporary home for an animal in need or have questions, please contact
