Serving the Community

Police DiversThe foundation of a successful community policing strategy is the close, interactive relationship between officers and community members working toward the goal of reducing crime and its effects.

Efforts focus on the underlying causes of crime by assessing the characteristics of problems in specific neighborhoods and the application of appropriate, mutually supported problem-solving remedies in a partnership role.

Police DiversGenuine progress requires the active participation of civic groups, business leaders, private agencies, churches, schools, hospitals and other local government support agencies.

Although traditional incident driven response and service delivery is an inherent and necessary part of our responsibility to provide effective law enforcement in Fairfax County, a significant portion of our response effort is proactive in nature and is equally served from within a community policing framework.

Police DiversParamount to successful community policing is an understanding of the two core components, community partnership and problem solving.

In furtherance of its partnership with the community, the Department provides a wide range of programs and services to the County as part of its Exemplary Services.
