Construction Fraud

If you’ve paid someone to perform construction work or repairs and the work wasn’t done or wasn’t finished, you might be a victim of construction fraud.

There are steps you can take if you believe you have been victimized:

  • Provide proof you paid to have the work done (cancelled check, signed credit card receipt or a cash receipt)
  • Provide proof of the start and finish date
  • Provide a written contract for the project
  • You must be able to prove that there was fraudulent intent.

Construction fraud can be confusing issue and difficult to prove.  If you have questions, contact detectives with the FCPD Financial Crimes Section at 703-246-7800.
