Embezzlement is stealing and stealing is a crime, specifically, a form of larceny.

How do you recognize embezzlement?
If you suspect an individual of embezzlement, you may notice:
- Financial problems or unexplained new-found wealth
- Decline in job performance
- Personality changes/mood swings
- Deviation from policy/procedure
- Outside business interests
- Change in vacationing pattern; too many or unscheduled
If you suspect an organization of embezzlement, you may notice:
- Poor internal controls
- Unbalanced accounts
- Missing or disorganized documents
- Unexplained discrepancies
Do you suspect your company has been embezzled?
- Hire an outside agency to perform an audit
- Make sure your company keeps accurate, up-to-date records
