This report is published every Friday. The information in each report covers significant criminal incidents from the week before. Reports cover a time frame from the preceding Thursday through the next Wednesday.

The report contains selected crimes, including animal-related incidents and property crimes. The information is organized by district station. If a section has no reported incident, that section will not be shown. Addresses shown indicate blocks and not specific locations.

Bike Thefts Up; Take Precautions

ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT

CHECKPOINT, 6000 block of North Kings Highway, 8/31/13. Officers conducted a DWI checkpoint searching for drunk drivers. Five-hundred-eighty-eight vehicles passed through. Four drivers were charged with DWI. Eighteen summonses were issued and two criminal arrests were made.

DIRECTED PATROL, 8/31/13. Officers from the Operations Support Bureau patrolled the county searching for drunk drivers. Three drivers were charged with DWI. Twenty-nine summonses were issued. Also, three criminal charges were made.

SULLY DISTRICT STATION

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 14500 block of Riverwind Terrace, 9/1/13. A 56-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk. An unknown man was standing nearby; he pulled down his shorts and exposed himself. He fled when she called the police.

MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

BURGLARY, 5800 block of Cameron Run Terrace, 8/29/1. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole a laptop computer. Forced entry was made through a door.

BURGLARY, 8400 block of Graves Street, 8/30/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole a television. There were no signs of forced entry.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 8400 block of Fort Hunt Road, 8/31/13. Officers responded for an alarm and located two 15-year-old boys running from the school. The boys were turned over to their parents. Charges are pending.

BURGLARY, 5800 block of Cameron Run Terrace, 9/3/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole several items to include clothing. There were no signs of forced entry.

MCLEAN DISTRICT STATION

ASSAULT, 3100 block of Allen Street, 8/29/13. A 45-year-old man was walking home and two unknown men assaulted him. The victim was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police Update Death Investigation

ABDUCTION, 2900 block of Annandale Road, 9/4/13. A 48-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk. An unknown man approached from behind and pulled her behind a tree. The suspect pushed her away when another came walking down the sidewalk. The victim was not injured. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY, 900 block of Dead Run Drive, 9/4/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole jewelry. Forced entry was made through a rear door.

MASON DISTRICT STATION

BURGLARY, 8500 block of Overlook Road, 8/31/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole several items to include clothing. Forced entry was made through a window.

ROBBERY, 3000 block of Patrick Henry Drive, 8/31/13. A 41-year-old man was assaulted by an acquaintance. The suspect stole the victim’s wallet. The victim was transported with non life-threatening injuries.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 6400 block of Walters Woods Drive, 9/1/13. An unknown person opened the front door and tossed a firecracker inside. No one was injured.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 7300 block of Parkwood Court, 9/3/13. A resident reported someone entered the home but nothing was stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.

BURGLARY, 6000 block of Hanover Avenue, 8/30/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole copper piping. Forced entry was made through a window.

ASSAULT, 6900 block of Hechinger Drive, 9/1/13. A 36-year-old man was assaulted by three unknown individuals. Nothing was stolen and the victim was transported with non life-threatening injuries.

BURGLARY, 7200 block of Commerce Street, 9/2/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole cash. There were no signs of forced entry.

Officer Involved Shooting in Springfield Area

BURGLARY, 7100 block of Sontag Way, 8/30/13. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole several items to include jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry.

ASSAULT, 8600 block of Reseca Lane, 9/1/13. A 42-year-old man was changing the oil in his vehicle when, allegedly, a neighbor attacked him with a knife. The victim was medevac’d to the hospital and later down-graded to non life-threatening injuries. Jae Kim, 39, of Springfield, was charged with malicious wounding.

ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION

MALTREAT ANIMAL, 6600 block of Springfield Mall, 9/1/13. Officers were called for a dog left in a vehicle. The Labrador mix was allegedly left in the vehicle for nearly an hour. Rebekah Bryk, 28, of Springfield, was charged with unfit owner and failure to provide adequate care. The dog was evaluated by a veterinarian and found to be ok.
