Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, Fairfax County police officers responded to a call for a shot person in the area of the Franconia District Police Station located at 6121 Franconia Road. Officers found two Hispanic men in the front parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds.
At about the same time, a trooper with the Virginia State Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling westbound on Franconia Road near the intersection of Fleet Drive. By this time, Fairfax County officers as well as officers from The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Police had responded to assist the trooper. When the suspect vehicle came to rest, the driver exited and pointed a gun at the officers. There was a brief exchange of gunfire and the suspect was shot. No Fairfax County officers sustained injuries.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The victims located in front of the police station were also transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
