Officer Involved Crash in Mount Vernon Area 

            A police officer was involved in a two-car crash at approximately 5 p.m., February 12 at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Boswell Drive. A 33-year-old Alexandria-area woman driving a Toyota sedan pulled onto Route 1 and was struck by a police Ford Crown Victoria, headed northbound on Route 1. The officer was responding to a call for service and had activated the cruiser’s emergency lights. The Alexandria-area woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The officer was treated for her injuries and released.

            Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives are in the early stages of their investigation into determining the factors of the crash. The officer is 22 years old and has been with the department for one year.
