Student Assaulted at School

Police are investigating a reported assault that occurred on Wednesday, May 14 around 1 p.m. at Cameron Elementary School, 3434 Campbell Drive in Alexandria. A 12-year-old student was allegedly assaulted by his teacher, Maria Waugh, while in class. There appeared to be some discussion about the student’s behavior that led to the alleged assault. The student was not injured. He went home and reported the incident to his parents, who called police.

On Thursday, May 15, Waugh, 42, of 6220 Quander Road in Alexandria, was issued a summons for assault. She was served with the warrant at the Franconia District police station and was released on her signature.
