Crime Rises and Falls in 2007
A mixed picture of reported index crimes in Fairfax County emerged in 2007. Index crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.
Overall crime increased by 6.13 percent in 2007 compared to 2006. A breakdown of individual crimes included in the index crimes finds the number of reported murders and burglaries dropped, aggravated assaults and vehicle thefts stayed nearly the same, and reported rapes, robberies and larcenies increased compared to 2006. Violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault) rose 4.61 percent while property crimes (burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft) increased by 6.22 percent.
