Catalytic Converter Stolen;
Suspect Caught on Tape
Fairfax County Police are investigating a grand larceny of a catalytic converter from a vehicle. The suspect went to the C.S. Auto Service, Incorporated at 7640 Fullerton Road in the Lorton area on Monday, May 26 around 10:40 p.m. Surveillance cameras captured the suspect being dropped off as a second suspect drove off. The suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Nissan truck parked at the service station. The suspect vehicle appears to be an early 90s Ford Escort and may be blue in color. The driver’s rear tire is the only one with a distinctive, small, moon hubcap.
Two other catalytic converters were stolen from the same service station during the middle of April. Throughout the county, there were 78 reports of converter thefts from November 2007 until May 2008. Nine reports included multiple thefts from one location. Of the 78 reports, 135 converters were taken. Most occurred at auto repair shops. Toyota 4Runners were the most common vehicle targeted followed by Nissans.
