Business Compliance Checks in Fair Oaks District
On Tuesday, February 10, officers of the Fair Oaks District Station conducted business compliance checks at several locations in the Chantilly, Oakton and Herndon areas of Fairfax County. This sting is part of the ongoing youth alcohol/business compliance enforcement campaign in which a Fairfax County police cadet, dressed in plain clothes, attempts to purchase alcohol from various locations. The police cadet is instructed to enter the locations, attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages and then attempt payment. If asked whether he is 21 years of age, the police cadet will respond with his true age and/or date of birth. If asked for identification, he will tell them that he left his identification at home or in the car. If the sale or service of alcohol transpires, a plain-clothes police officer, along with the assistance of a uniformed officer, will take possession of the alcohol from the cadet and place appropriate charges on the seller.
Nineteen locations were entered with one arrest made for illegal sale of alcohol to a minor. The sting was conducted using one team consisting of one plain-clothed officer, one uniformed officer, and one cadet.
