UPDATE

Police charged Elmer Midence-Merlo with felony murder on Friday, March 20. Midence remains in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Police Charge Father in Infant’s Death

Elmer Midence, 38, of 7427 Bath Street, Springfield was charged with felony child abuse and neglect on Monday, March 16. Officials responded to a 911 call around 1:50 p.m. for a report of an infant in distress.

The 8-month-old boy, Albert Midence, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead Wednesday, March 18. The cause and manner of death are pending autopsy at the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the baby’s injuries and whether or not additional charges will be placed.
