Fatal Crash in Springfield
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, a pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Millwood Drive. The pedestrian, a 58-year-old, Springfield woman, was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Old Keen Mill Road. A 2007 Nissan Murano, driven by a 56-year-old Springfield man, was traveling westbound on Old Keene Mill Road. The initial investigation indicated that the pedestrian stepped in front of the Nissan and was hit.
The pedestrian was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later. Next of kin has not been notified.
The driver of the Nissan was also transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in non life-threatening condition.
Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit continue their investigation.
This is the eighth fatal crash in Fairfax County this year; the third involving a pedestrian.
Pedestrian safety is a high priority of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. For information about the Fairfax County Pedestrian Program, go to http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/pedestrian/.
