Pit Bull Attacks Three Children and a Woman

A loose pit bull attacked three children and a woman, all from Annandale, on Thursday, April 16 in the 3300 block of Woodburn Village Drive. An investigation revealed that around 5:30 p.m., the dog was behind a partially opened, screened window. The dog broke through the screen and first attacked a 7-year-old girl, biting her on the leg and shoulder. A 35-year-old woman was bitten on the hand as she tried to help the girl. The dog ran off to a nearby basketball court and charged two boys playing basketball. The dog bit one of them, an 8-year-old, on the hand and ran off again into the woods.

Officers responded and contained the pit bull inside a neighborhood dog park. The woman and the two children were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The dog owner gave up custody of the pit bull and animal control officers transported it to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where it was euthanized. Charges are pending.
