Series of Destruction of Property Cases in the
Mount Vernon Area
On Sunday, April 12, police responded to 24 cases of mailboxes destroyed in the Belle View and Fort Hunt areas. The incidents all occurred between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. A dark colored Jeep with possible damage to the front passenger side was allegedly involved. It had a broken headlight and displayed Virginia license plates. The Jeep was occupied by two white males in their late teens to early 20s.
The mailboxes destroyed were on the following streets:
- 2000 block of Swann Terrace
- 1600-1700 block of River Farm Road
- 6000 block of Princeton Drive
- 9000 block of Tower House Place
- 8000 block of Riverside Drive
- 8000 block of Camden Street
- 1900 block of Prices Lane
- 8000 block of Linton Lane
- 1700 block of Rampart Drive
On that same day in the early morning, six playing fields were also allegedly destroyed by a vehicle driving through them. The damaged fields include:
- West Potomac High School
- Waynewood Recreation Center
- Waynewood Elementary School
- Fort Hunt Elementary School
- Bryant Alternative High School
- Sandburg Middle School
