UPDATE
A body was located in the Potomac River near Fletcher’s Boathouse in Washington, D. C. on Saturday, May 16 shortly after 10 a.m. The D.C. Medical Examiner’s office has identified the body as that of James D. Hughes. The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. Next of kin has been notified.
Missing Adult
Fair Oaks Police District - Fairfax County police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 54-year-old, Vienna man who was reported missing on Sunday, May10 around 8:30 p.m. James D. Hughes left his home in the 9900 block of Woodrow Street in a 2005, silver Volvo SUV, with a green kayak on the roof. The Volvo was located on Monday, May 11, in Algonkian Regional Park, near the Potomac River, in Loudoun County; Hughes and the kayak have not been found. He has reportedly been distraught over personal matters and is believed to have entered the river at some point. Hughes has been entered into the National Crime Information Center computer system as missing/endangered.
James D. Hughes is described as white, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and approximately 200 pounds. He has brown hair, green eyes, a gray/brown beard, and mustache. He was last seen wearing a tan T-shirt and green pants.
