Police Investigate Malicious Wounding Case
Mason Police District – Fairfax County Police were called to the 3800 block of South George Mason Drive just before midnight on Friday, May 22. Officers located two men with stab wounds to their upper bodies. The two men, 29 and 39 years old, were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of their non life-threatening injuries.
An investigation determined there was an altercation between two men in the parking lot. The altercation escalated when friends jumped in to assist. During the fight the two victims, who were innocent bystanders, were stabbed. Three other teenage boys were treated for minor abrasions at the scene.
During their investigation, detectives apprehended Atilano T. Malave, 22, of 4515 Holmes Run Parkway in Alexandria. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with two counts of malicious wounding by mob and gang participation. This investigation is ongoing and further charges are possible. Investigators believe the incident was gang-related.
