1981 Cold Case Solved by DNA

A match generated through “The Combined DNA Index System” (CODIS), resulted in the identification of a suspect currently incarcerated on unrelated charges. Maurice Turner, 63, was in the Hampton Roads Regional Jail until Thursday, June 4, when Fairfax County Cold Case detectives arrested Turner for a 1981 sex offense. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with rape, abduction with intent to defile, and burglary with intent to commit a felony.

The original case was reported on April 22, 1981, at a townhouse in the 5400 block of Crossrail Drive in Burke. The victim was in her 20s at the time and reportedly lived with one roommate. The suspect forced entry into the home and held the victim at gunpoint. Detectives have made contact with her.
