Burglars Enter through Ceiling
Mount Vernon/Franconia Police District – On Thursday, July 9 at 2:15 p.m., a 14-year-old girl, who was home alone in the 7900 block of Audubon Avenue, was startled by an unknown man. He opened her bedroom door, saw the girl, turned and left the apartment. She was not harmed and nothing was taken from the apartment. An investigation revealed the suspect entered the home by crawling through a hole in the ceiling.
The suspect was described as approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and 200 pounds. He was black, with black hair and unshaven. He was wearing a striped T-shirt, jean shorts and a black bandana.
On Wednesday, July 8, a 26-year-old man returned home just after 4 p.m. and discovered that someone broke into his apartment in the 7000 block of Elingham Circle. The victim saw a suspicious person leaving the building as he was arriving. An investigation revealed that nothing was taken and the suspect apparently gained entry through a hole in the ceiling. Detectives are investigating the possibility these two events are related.
The suspicious person was described as black, in his late 20s. He was approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing brown pants and a long white T-shirt.
