Joint Effort Halts Risky Rigs

Out of the 23 trucks checked in a comprehensive inspection effort this morning, 22 were placed out of service for serious safety infractions. Fairfax County Police Department motor carrier officers were joined by the Fort Belvoir Police Department traffic safety unit, in response to a wave of complaints from Lorton area motorists and residents.

The truck safety check began shortly after 7 a.m. and lasted until 11:30 a.m. and was conducted in the Gunston Plaza shopping area near the intersection of Route 1 and Lorton Road.

In addition to a 95 percent out-of-service rate, officers placed two drivers out of service, made 28 traffic charges and uncovered 40 out-of-service violations.

Random motor carrier safety inspections will continue to be a priority for the Fairfax County Police Department in an effort to keep roadways and motorists safe.
