Man Charged with Abducting a Child
Mason Police District – Fairfax County Police arrested a man for allegedly abducting a 9-year-old boy in the restroom of Dick’s Sporting Goods, 5716 Columbia Pike. The child was in the store with his father on Saturday, August 22 around 1 p.m. He told his father he had to use the restroom. Surveillance video depicts the child entering the restroom and a man entering shortly thereafter. The child exited the restroom, went directly to his father and described a man that had prevented him from leaving the restroom, while attempting to engage him in inappropriate activity. The father went immediately to store security and provided them with the information along with a description of the man. The child was not touched or injured. Police responded to the store and reviewed the surveillance video with the victim, his father, and store security.
Detectives were called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The suspect was eventually identified and warrants were obtained. Steven David Liggon, 47, of 5001 Seminary Road #301, in Alexandria, was arrested at his residence on Sunday, August 23. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with abduction with intent to defile and indecent liberties.
Police would like to hear from anyone who thinks their child might have had any contact with Liggon.
